IN PERSON WORKSHOP - Hand Building a Micaceous Clay Basket

$120.00

Join me in my lovely backyard studio, and discover how to create a basket out of gorgeous micaceous clay.

Learn how to hand-build a ceramic basket, or a vessel of your choice, using a slab coiling technique. Decorate and add a handle or texture to create your own unique piece.

The workshop will cover

  1. Tips for rolling a slab.

  2. How to hand build using a versatile slab coiling technique.

  3. How to add texture and decorative elements to your piece.

  4. The properties of micaceous clay and how to work with it to get the best results.

Micaceous clay is a low fire clay body, infused with mica flakes, which will give your masterpiece a glittery shimmer once it’s fired. It has traditionally been used by the native americans to cook, serve and store food. It is often pit fired and is rendered very strong and lightweight.
