Hi there, my name is Nicola Moore and I'm a ceramic artist based in Pasadena, California. I've been working with clay for more than a decade, and I'm endlessly obsessed with colour and unique, one-of-a-kind glaze surfaces. Right now I'm specialising in the rare and technically demanding world of in-glaze luster, those iridescent, shifting metallic surfaces born of pure, magical, often unpredictable alchemy. I also love to encourage creativity in others… I teach my philosophy around glazing, offer a course in the wonderfully accessible art of microwave firing, and every so often host in-person workshops here at my sunny studio.

The Stardust Collection
I'm so excited to share my latest body of work with you… a gathering of one of a kind ceramic art objects, with surfaces that really feel like somewhere you could journey into 💫
This collection is almost purely luster, and that's the whole heart of it. Luster is a highly specialised surface treatment, and these aren't glazes anyone can buy. They're built from years of my own chemistry experimentation, applied in many layers, and put through complex multi stage firings. It has taken me years to develop this process, and it's what makes these pieces unlike anything else. It's as unpredictable as it is enchanting… which is exactly why not one of them could ever be repeated, even if I wanted to 🌙
Deep space blues and purples, aurora skies, drifts and streaks that shift and move as you turn the piece in your hands. On a few of them I've added tiny specks of 22 carat gold, enhancing that vibe even further ✨
And the name is more literal than it sounds. The metals on these surfaces were forged inside stars, long before they ever reached our earth, or my kiln. Literal stardust, transmuted in the fire into a visual reflection of the celestial cosmos it came from. Each piece dreams up a cosmos of its own, while taking its place as a speck in our infinite universe.
